If you’re new (ish) to Denver/Boulder and you love food, check this out.

Having lived here for over 44 years and having been married to a chef for more than 25 of those years, I’d like to think I know a little about the local restaurant scene.

Frankly, these days, we are blessed with so many new buildings and hotels and so many restaurants are “changing hands”, I don’t attempt to try to keep up with or get caught up in all the details.  But I dine out very often and here’s a short list of my 3-favorite new dinner – oriented establishments of 2017.

El Five Restaurant

El Five

First, I have to go with El Five.  Yes, this urban, cosmopolitan vibe restaurant/bar is flat out exciting. The room feels more big-city like, the bar is always alive, the views – well just go!  Oh right, the food.  Check out the paella options and varieties of fresh veggie-forward, healthy offerings.  No, it’s not cheap.

Second, I love, love, love Concourse (near Stapleton).  The room is also sophisticated, but in a chic and comfy - all at once - way.  The menu provides something for everyone.  I sampled fresh trout, a lamb shoulder and a sweet potato salad that all hit the bullseye.  Plus, truly great service makes it a must stop for me.

Third, in the DTC, you must try Surena.  It’s not easy to find for newbies, but I know you all use GPS or Lyft anyway. They served me and my date so much hip-quality food for the money it was almost embarrassing.  Not one, but two, huge salmon fillets char-grilled perfectly for like 22 bucks (with veggies, rice, etc.).  It’s a well decorated, quiet dining room with a Mideastern theme, ownership and charm.

You know what I like most about these choices.  There all very different, in menu and location.  Denver’s restaurant scene offers it all – growth, diversity and quality choices.  Go for it.  You’ve been working hard enough.

And feel free to add your choices comments, etc.

Love to learn more,
